Starbucks Spirituality

I’m going to preach at the Tap this week on the topic of coffee, Starbucks, fair trade, and spirituality.   

Did you know that coffee is the most popular drink worldwide with over 400 billion cups consumed each year? 

If you walk into any Starbucks, the choices are endless!  The longest order you can make is the “Double Ristretto Venti Nonfat Organic Chocolate Brownie Frappuccino Extra Hot with Foam and Whipped Cream Upside Down Double Blended.”  I just went to Starbucks this morning and got my usual “tall dark roast drip” coffee.  My wife always gets a “London Fog” (earl grey tea, steamed milk, and a few shots of vanilla). 

What do you get?  Barista anyone?

Sadly, I only discovered the London Fog recently. Loretta almost always get a Caramel Macchiato which tastes like sugar water to me. $4 worth of sugar water that is. What gets me is, you can get real food (well, fast food) for that kind of money. toby

Ghetto Latte!

Have you tried a ghetto latte?  The "ghetto-latte" or "bootleg-latte" is ordering any size Iced Americano, with no water and half ice.  Then, taking the drink and going to the condiments bar and adding your own half and half.

Would you try it?

Not JUST the eggnog, Chai eggnog latte is awesome :) Or else the white mocha with a hint of mint (2 pumps as opposed to the 4 or 5) Although too much of starbucks drinks is really too much!

So a few comments: 1) The "longest order" doesn't actually make sense because you can't get a frappuccino (blended ice drink) extra hot. AND 2) It's actually a 'vanilla tea misto'. Apparantly the term 'london fog' was coined elsewhere and someone actually has the copyright to that name. We'll make it, but if you hear a starbucks employee call out "London Fog!", then that's taboo. Here's a pretty good cold drink if you're in the mood... Iced Passion Tea Lemondae with one pump classic, one pump melon, and one pump valenzia. or as becca like it more, one pump raspberry and one pump blackberry. cheers!
