Superheroes @ the tap

This week begins a new sermon series on Superheroes!  Why do superheroes play such a prominant part in our culture?  Just look at all the hype surrounding the release of the new Spiderman 3 movie!  Why is "Heroes" the no. 1 new TV show of the year? What is it about superheroes that resonate so much with people?  These are some of the questions we'll be looking at in the next few weeks.

What do you think? Is there this innate desire for us to be a hero? Do we live vicariously through Spidy? Do we yearn for a Superman to save us?  Before I begin this series, I'd love to hear what you think!

super hero or zero

Growing up, I was big into collecting comic books. Haven't really thought about it. I'm hyped about Spiderman 3 because he was my favourite growing up. And maybe that's why we like it, because we all want to be a kid again!

Looking forward to the series!

Move Over Spidey...

Sometimes when you read your Bible, you have to read between the lines. From doing so, my Bible tells me that Jesus was the ULTIMATE super hero.

Growing up in a Catholic school background, I was always under the impression (from often-seen portraits and art works) that Jesus was a skinny, undernourished, mellow, quiet, and introverted man. And I believe that is what society today has deceived us into perceiving.

If you think about it, Jesus worked in a carpenter's workshop for a couple of decades. Back then, there were no electrical drills, saws, or sanding machines. It was all done by hand. He would also be lifting logs and heavy objects from one place to another. That has got to do wonders for your biceps, triceps, quads, abs, and pectorals! I'm telling you, the Jesus of the Bible was RIPPED like our very own Toby Mak! =)

He was also able to convince 12 men to drop EVERYTHING they had by saying just 2 words..."Follow Me". Jesus had to have exemplified extreme boldness, authority, and power among other super hero qualities to be able to get these grown men to follow Him in an instant. Can you imagine a Steve Urkel look-a-like trying to get the same men to follow him? Sorry...wouldn't happen!

Move over Spiderman and Superman...you guys ain't got nothing on the GOD MAN!!!
