THE TAPESTRY: A COMMUNITY WOVEN IN FAITH
The Tapestry is a new church that launched in November of 2004. Why did we pick “The Tapestry” as the name of this church?According to the Cambridge International Dictionary of English, a tapestry is "a piece of cloth whose pattern or picture is created by sewing or weaving different coloured threads onto a special type of strong cloth." Traditional tapestries graced the walls of castles and churches, to protect from the cold, and to add warmth and beauty.
Like a rich colourful tapestry, this church aims to welcome individuals from all walks of life. We desire to become a vibrant and growing multicultural community of people, representing different ethnic groups as well as people of different ages and backgrounds.
Like a tapestry that is woven on a special type of strong cloth, this church also aims to weave Christ into the fabric of our lives. One single strand is weak and ordinary, but when woven together with others in Christ, it becomes strong, beautiful, and catches the attention of others. Thus, like tapestries that protect from the cold and add warmth to their surroundings, this church intends to provide warmth and comfort to the surrounding community in Richmond. And like beautiful tapestries that invoke inspiration and reflection, this church plant aspires to reflect and illustrate God's love through creative worship and a caring community.
