Karen Schaffer

Children's Ministry Intern

Having lived in different countries with diverse cultures as a child and into adulthood, Karen understands the deep universal desire for home, belonging and identity, and is witness to Christ as the ultimate source and fulfilment of this.

Karen has a B.Sc. in Genetics from UBC and a B.Ed. from Brock University.  After working as scientist, public school teacher and baker, she joined the Tapestry Staff as Children’s Director in 2012.  Stepping down in 2015 to pursue an M.A. in Theological Studies at Regent College, Karen is grateful for the opportunity to return as TapKids Intern, to be part of this vibrant intergenerational discipleship ministry.  She is excited to explore how families can remember, experience, celebrate, and live Christ each day - their sense of home, belonging and identity rooted in and shaped by Him.

Commonly slumped over a pile of books writing papers, Karen can also be found eating sushi with her husband Paul and their girls, Isabella and Kiana, Bollywood dancing with the curtains wide open, experimental-baking, playing Olympic-level hopscotch, and slow-hiking to take pictures of moss.
